" Never Bluff A Six-Gun "

History
The Wild West holds a special place in American history—Western films depict it as a place where the rules didn’t apply, and where scores were settled with gun slinging and shootouts. The colorful characters who made up the old West were men, women, cowboys, Indians, sheriffs just plain outlaws. Though we’ve come to have a more nuanced understanding of the good and the bad of the old West. Early America was sexually active. One third of the brides were pregnant on their wedding day. Sexual relations were a part of courtship. “Bundling was the custom that allowed couples to sleep on the same bed without undressing.” “Erastus Worthington, a local historian, noticed the custom in 1828, of females admitting young men to their beds, who sought their company in marriage.” In large cities, prostitution became more common and was priced according to location. Women of the West during the 1800’s had greater freedom and more opportunities as proprietors than their counter-parts in the East. Labor shortages and the more lenient attitude toward women’s roles opened doors for women in commerce unavailable in the more Victorian-minded East. Head ADMINISTRATION...MADAME KATE
The Old West inevitably conjures certain images - a dimly lit saloon, a lone gunslinger, and bustling brothels. Old West prostitutes and madams caused as much havoc as any Wild West gang, and did as much good as any honorable, white-hatted sheriff. They did all this by using their wits and chasing their passions, whether those passions were matters of the heart, building an empire, or fighting for human rights.

Almost without exception, pioneer mining camps, boomtowns and whistles-stops became home to at least one or two hookers - if not a roaring red light district.
The 19th century show some of the most famous scarlet women of the time - who would go on to become millionaires, national heroes and outlaws.
Prostitution contributed heavily to town economies in the way of business licenses, fees and fines.
Although prostitution was largely illegal, brothels were no secret in the old West.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT...MISS SCORP
The full-time career bounty hunter, as depicted in Western books and films, was very rare.
Most bounties were collected by local law enforcement officers or by private detectives working for detective agencies, like Pinkertons, or for stagecoach, railway or mining companies. The bounty was a bonus for confronting dangerous criminals, especially those wanted in other jurisdictions. A chance to claim a share in a bounty also encouraged civilians to join a posse or become temporary deputies.

In the early California Gold Rush of 1849, dance halls began to appear and spread throughout later settlements. While these saloons usually offered games of chance, their chief attraction was dancing. The customer generally paid 75¢ to $1.00 for a ticket to dance, with the proceeds being split between the dance hall girl and the saloon owner. After the dance, the girl would steer the gentleman to the bar, where she would make an additional commission from the sale of a drink.
Dancing usually began about 8:00 p.m., ranging from waltzes to schottisches with each “turn” lasting about 15 minutes. A popular girl would average 50 dances a night, sometimes making more a night than a working man could make in a month. Dancehall girls made enough money that it was very rare for them to double as a prostitute, in fact, many former “soiled doves” found they could make more money as a dance hall girl.

For a period of time in the Old West, from around 1850 to 1890, the western frontier had little in the way of government law or police. Men carried guns to protect themselves. There were outlaws who stole from people and lawmen who tried to stop them. Today we call these men gunfighters or gunslingers. At the time they were called gunmen or shootists.

"C' mon in! This your first time Honey?" This may have been what you'd hear when cautiously and curiously stepping inside your first smoke-filled, dimly lit, nineteenth century bordello and seeing a Dove. After that first contact, caution was history, the love of old west notorious history from gold strike tent towns to established cities and the men and women that made their presence known.
